What are agentic AI assistants?
Agentic AI assistants are AI tools that do not just answer questions, they take action: they plan a series of steps, use software tools and data sources on your behalf, and carry a task through to a finished result. Unlike a standard chatbot, which responds one turn at a time, an agentic assistant works toward a goal with a degree of autonomy.
The word "agentic" comes from agency, the capacity to act independently. In practice it means the assistant can break a request such as "prepare a status report for this project" into steps, pull the data it needs from connected systems, draft the output, and check its own work before handing it back. Autonomy is a spectrum rather than a switch, so most business deployments keep a human approval point in front of anything that changes data or reaches a customer.
