Introduction
In project management, milestones are key moments or checkpoints in a project timeline. In Easy Gantt, milestones help visualize and track these important dates. They are used to mark goals, delivery points, or decision deadlines in your project plan.

Purpose of Milestones
Milestones serve as visual indicators of project progress and help align teams around fixed objectives. In Easy Gantt, they are:
- Non-duration items that represent a specific date
- Useful for grouping tasks and tracking their progress
- Displayed directly on the Gantt chart timeline
How Milestones Work in Easy Gantt
Visual Placement
- An open milestone is displayed under the specific project it belongs to.
- It also appears above any visible tasks linked to it.
- If shared across multiple projects, the milestone will appear:
- Once under the task list (original, movable version)
- Again above the non-home project (mirror, not movable)
Completion State
- Closed milestones are not shown on the Gantt chart
- They can be found under Project Settings → Milestones
Relation to Tasks
- Milestones can be linked to tasks for better organization
- Tasks cannot normally move beyond their associated milestone unless the admin allows it under:
Administration → Settings → Task tracking → “Allow to set task due date after milestone date”
Key Behaviors
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Move task beyond milestone (with setting disabled) | Not allowed unless milestone is moved too |
| Move task beyond milestone (with setting enabled) | Milestone moves along with task |
| Drag task to a milestone | Links task to that milestone |
| Move task between milestones | Changes task's milestone |
| Make task a subtask | Uses parent task's milestone instead |
Summary
Milestones in Easy Gantt provide a clear way to track fixed goals and delivery points in your project. They help you see if your tasks align with critical deadlines and give project managers a better tool for monitoring success.
