Skills Management in Easy8
Introduction
Skills management is not a native feature in Easy8, but you can easily use Resource Management for this purpose. By creating specific custom fields on users and tasks, and combining them with filters, you can build a practical solution to plan based on people’s competencies.

What Is Skills Management?
Skills Management in Easy8 helps you:
- Define skills using custom fields (e.g., Programming, Debugging)
- Assign those skills to users using boolean or list-type fields
- Mark which tasks require specific skills
- Use filters in Resource Management to display only the relevant users and tasks
This allows you to assign tasks based on user qualifications, ensuring proper resource use and successful delivery.
How Does It Work?
Step 1: Create a Custom Field for User Skills
Go to Administration >> Custom fields >> Users >> New custom field
- Field name: e.g., Skill 1 (e.g., Programming)
- Field type:
- Boolean – shows whether the user has the skill (yes/no)
- List – lets you define levels like Beginner, Advanced, Expert
This custom field will be available in each user’s profile.
Step 2: Create a Custom Field on Tasks
Next, create a matching custom field for tasks:
Administration >> Custom fields >> Tasks >> New custom field
- Field name: e.g., Skill 1 required?
- Field type: Boolean (yes/no)
This lets you mark which tasks require a specific skill.
Step 3: Use Filters in Resource Management
In Global Resource Management, do the following:
- Click Filters >> Add filter
- Add the skill custom field for users (e.g., Skill 1 = Yes)
- Add the skill custom field for tasks (e.g., Skill 1 required? = Yes)
This shows only the users who have the skill and the tasks that require it.
Step 4: Save and Tag the Filter
After creating the filter:
- Save it and mark it as “Tagged in heading”
- This allows quick access from the top bar in Resource Management
- Clicking the tagged filter will display only qualified users and matching tasks
Optional: Hide Groups
If you don’t want user groups to appear in the view:
- Add a Group selection filter
- Set the value to None
Conclusion
Although Skills Management is not a built-in feature, Easy8 allows you to manage it effectively using custom fields and filters in Resource Management. This setup helps ensure that only skilled users are assigned to tasks that require their abilities.
📌 Note: Most actions described in this article can also be performed in the project-level Resource Management. To access it, go to a specific project and click the "Resource Management" tab. The functionality is almost identical, but it will only display and apply to tasks and users related to that specific project.
