Relations Between Requirements Artifacts

Introduction

This article explains how relations between artifacts work in the Easy8 Requirements Management module. These relations help define dependencies, hierarchy, and task connections between artifacts, supporting better structure and traceability in technical projects.

Understanding Relations Between Artifacts

What Are Artifact Relations?

Relations define how one requirement artifact is connected to another. They allow you to establish logic such as parent-child, dependency, or conflict. These connections help maintain clarity in requirement structure and impact.

Creating a Relation Between Artifacts

  1. Go to any artifact and click Update.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page to find Create a new relation.
  3. Select a relation type (e.g., Parent-child, Dependency).
  4. Choose the related artifact from the list.
  5. Save the changes. The artifacts will now be connected.

Note: Parent-child relations can also be created by positioning artifacts within a hierarchical tree.

Linking Tasks to Artifacts

  • In the artifact view, use the Related task input field to search and select an existing task.
  • If the task does not exist, click Create related Issue to generate one.
  • Linked tasks appear directly on the artifact page.

Linking Artifacts from a Task

  • Open the task and click Update.
  • Use the Add related artifacts selector to search for and link existing artifacts.
  • Note: You cannot create a new artifact from this view, but you can link multiple artifacts.

Bidirectional Relations

Whether you create the relation from the artifact or from the task, the system automatically tracks both ends of the connection as:

  • Incoming relations
  • Outgoing relations

Adding File Attachments

You can also upload relevant documents to any artifact. Use the File attachments section to add files directly from your computer.

Conclusion

Creating and managing relations between requirement artifacts ensures a well-organized and traceable documentation structure. Whether you are setting up parent-child hierarchies, dependencies, or task links, these connections help streamline the process of building complex projects.
