How to Rename and Move Pages
Step 1: Check Links to the Page
- Navigate to the page you want to rename.
- Click on "What links here" under "All actions" in the page tools.
- Review the list of pages linking to the current page. If there are many links, it is advisable to create a redirect during the move.
Step 2: Move the Page
- Click on "Move" under "Actions" in the page tools.
- Enter the new page name. If moving to a different namespace, include the namespace prefix.
- Optionally, provide a reason for the move for record-keeping.
- Decide whether to leave a redirect:
- Create a redirect if the original title is heavily linked or commonly searched.
- Skip redirect if correcting small errors or avoiding unnecessary redirects.
- Choose whether to monitor changes on both source and target pages.
- Click "Done". The page is now moved and renamed.
Step 3: Update References (If Needed)
- If no redirect was created, links to the old page must be updated manually.
- Administrators can use Special:Replace Text:
- Go to Special:Replace Text.
- Enter the original page title under "Existing text".
- Enter the new page title under "Replacement text".
- Select all wiki sections using the "All" button.
- Click "Continue" to see the list of matches found (no text will be replaced yet).
- Select the checkboxes for the results you want to update.
- Click "Replace" to perform the replacement.
- Replacement confirmation will appear, and updates are processed in the background.
When to Move with or Without Redirect
Moving with a Redirect
- The original page is linked from many places internally or externally.
- The original title is commonly searched by users.
Moving without a Redirect
- Fixing a small spelling error where only a few links exist and can be updated easily.
- You want to completely remove the old title from searches and references.

You have successfully learned how to rename and move pages in the Knowledge Base. Proper handling of redirects and updating references ensures a smooth transition without breaking links or confusing users.
