How to Drag & Drop Tasks and Projects in WBS

Introduction

In Easy8’s Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), you can manage the structure of a project using simple drag-and-drop actions. This allows you to visually sort and organize both tasks and projects directly from the WBS interface.

Target Audience

  • User

Prerequisites

  • WBS module enabled on the project
  • Sufficient permissions to edit tasks or project structures

Steps

1. Reorder Tasks and Subtasks

  • Click and hold a task (issue) in the WBS view
  • Drag it up or down to change its order within the current level
  • Drop it to place it in the new position

This updates the sequence in which tasks are shown under their parent.

2. Change Task Hierarchy

  • Drag a task and drop it onto another task
  • This makes it a subtask of the selected task

You can also reverse this by dragging the subtask out of the parent and placing it back at a higher level.

3. Move Tasks Across Projects

  • If multiple projects are shown (e.g., in global views), drag a task from one project and drop it into another
  • The task will now belong to the new project

Note: In most cases, WBS is used per project. Moving between projects may apply only in certain use cases where multiple project trees are visible.

Summary

The drag-and-drop functionality in WBS makes it easy to organize tasks and build your project structure. You can reorder, nest, or relocate tasks and manage the full hierarchy visually with just a few clicks.
